  • About Us

The International Travel Institute (ITI) was established in 1974 and originally designed to provide training for entry-level travel agents applying for employment with traditional storefront travel agencies. Starting with the elimination of airline commissions in the 1990s and the steady decline of storefront travel agencies, ITI changed its focus to home-based travel agents and agencies. New-entrants and experienced travel agents selling travel by way of affiliation with host travel agencies has become the dominant business model in the travel agency community.

  • Note on Membership Option

Membership in LTA Central is optional and is not a course requirement. If it turns out we’re not a good fit, you are immediately free to pursue other business options upon course completion.

  • Our Company

ITI is owned and managed by Leisure Travel Alliance Central (LTA Central), a host travel agency. The parent company of both is Leisure Travel Alliance, a traditional travel agency consortium. Leisure Travel Alliance and LTA Central provide networking and host agency services to more than 500 travel agencies and agents. Our management team has over 100 years of work experience in the travel agency industry. We are a Premium Member of the American Society of Travel Advisors. Other industry appointments and memberships include IATAN, IATA, ARC, CLIA, PATH and The Travel Institute.

Why We Sell Travel

Motivation & Expectation

You may already have your own reasons for enrolling in our course, but here is what we know. (1) Americans love to travel and the travel industry is strong, resilient and rewarding. (2) Many of our class participants successfully launch part-time or full-time careers selling travel. (3) Selling travel is also a way to supplement job or retirement income. (4) There are conditional opportunities for discounted travel. (The availability, value and types of discounted travel are decided at the discretion of travel suppliers and are subject to qualifications, terms and conditions) (5) There is also the potential for business tax deductions for agent travel and other business expenses. (Keep in mind that we and you will be required to report the income you earn selling travel and you should consult your tax professional to determine if you will qualify to take deductions) (6) We have agent members that make limited bookings and earn limited dollars; we have agents that make a very good living selling travel full-time; and, the majority of our agents fall somewhere between. Whatever your goals might be as an LTA Central member, you will have our support.
